Steps to Downgrade the iPhone iOS4 4.0.2 !
1. Download the Firmware version 4.0.1 from HERE.
2. Backup your iPhone through iTunes.
3. Put iPhone into DFU Mode :-
(1). First, Open up iTunes, plug in your iPod Touch/iPhone to the CPU's USB port. Turn on your CPU's speaker and make sure it is loud enough that you can hear it.
(2). Hold down the Home button (top left for iPod Touch and top right for the iPhone with the screen facing you) and the Power button (located on the front bottom of your iPod Touch/iPhone) simutaneously, until the screen goes black and the device turns off. (past the red slider/slide to power off screen)
(3). Now let go of the Power button, but continue to hold the Home button. Your iPod Touch/iPhone should have turned off and the screen should not be on.
(4). After around ~10-20 seconds, you will hear a noise (beep/ding) from your CPU as if it had just recognized a new hardware device, now iTunes should recognize it in DFU mode.
(5). After iTunes recognizes the iPod Touch/iPhone, let go of the Home button otherwise it will go into recovery mode and you will have to do the entire DFU process over again.
(6). You will know when you have put your iPod Touch/iPhone correctly into DFU mode when the display is blank and that you do not have anything on your device.

do i have to have the saved SHSH files?
do i have to have the SHSH files saved?
You dont have to in this case..
i just bought an iphone 4g, and tried to downgrade it using whats written on here but it doesnt go through the verifying part :s ,, could it be cuz i changed the host ip when i downgraded the iphone 3gs?
it gets stuck in the verifying with apple part and then gives me, unknown error. do u know where i went wrong?
Mohammad- Apple doesnt allow you to downgrade your iPhone so we do apply the method in which we changed the host IP for iTunes so that it may not interact with the Apple server and downgrade is made possible.
If its giving any error message it can we due to two reasons:
1: If you havent changed the host ip properly.
2: If you have not put iPhone in DFU mode before downgrading it.
Please follow my Post through INDEX. If you get the error please provide me the error no..
error number 3194. is this the right host "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com"?
Need a little help. I have followed the instructions for downgrading. when I start the restore process to downgrade it starts but then stops with an error code od 3194. I have tried several times on several different computers with same issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what Im doing wrong?
Im tring to downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1. I have followed instructions sevral times, tring it with different computers. i keep running into same problem. All goes well untill it starts to restore. after several seconds it rejects with a 3194 error code. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what Im doing wrong.
Apple always signs the latest firmware not the prior one and while downgrading to previous firmware the 3194 error will come if you have not saved or taken backup of ECID SHSH blobs of previous firmware.
how to fix 3194 restore, follow these steps:
go to c:windows\systems32\drivers\etc
open up: hosts with notepad
add this to the last line, 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
this how it should look: # For example:
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
simple copy these two lines and paste at the end of hosts file and you are done
seeing as i just bought a brand new iphone 4g and its running on a 4.0.2 software, i cant get to downgrade it or jailbreak it till the 4.1 upgrade is out, correct?
RIGHT ....
